WEEKS 1 & 2:
- The Call to witness: Acts 1:8 “…and you will be my witnesses in
Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
- Logically, our mission field is the place where we spend the most
time
- Witnessing (evangelizing) is a PROCESS, not an event
- Many people involved over a period of time, in many environments
- We are links in a chain
- The 4 stages of witnessing
- Cultivation: “working the soil” of the human heart. Address emotional
barriers, build relationships and trust, show the benefits of being
a child of God
- Planting: address intellectual barriers (misinformation, misconceptions);
provide answers to intellectual questions; develop understanding of
who Jesus is, what he expects to receive from us, what he wants to
do for us
- Harvesting: focus on resistance of the will to accept Jesus; graciously
persuade and consistently pray for people to be drawn near to Jesus
- Multiplying: plant new Christian lives in communities where they
can grow and flourish
WEEKS 3 & 4:
- The Call to witness: Revelation 20:15 “If anyone’s name was not
found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of
fire.”
- Not joining God as a distribution point of his grace is an act of
blatant disregard for His will and plan for our lives
- We are all workers in the Father’s field and most of us will focus
on the Cultivating phase, building meaningful relationships with people
over time
- Jesus called this the “hard work” (John 4:37-38) - “Thus the saying
‘One sows and another reaps’ is true. I sent you to reap what you
have not worked for. Others have done the hard work, and you have
reaped the benefits of their labor.”
- Ways to be a Witness
- Intentional evangelism: create opportunities to expose people to
Jesus in a non-religious, non-threatening atmosphere; create a sense
of curiosity
- Passive evangelism: use symbols, objects or art to arouse curiosity
(magazines, pictures, etc.)
- Relational evangelism: build friendships based on common ground
WEEKS 5 & 6:
- Faith Flags – the barest nugget of a story that gives a brief glimpse
of how faith is working in your life
- occur as a natural part of conversation
- take no longer than 20 seconds to share
- do not identify yourself as a member of a specific church or denomination
- avoid pointing to your faith as a reason for not doing something
- Faith Stories – the next step beyond a faith flag; testimony about
a specific time when something spiritual happened to you
- occur as a natural part of conversation
- take only a minute or two to tell
- limit the subject to God, the Bible, or prayer
- Facing Objections
- express disagreement while showing respect and affirming the value
of the individual: Can I offer you another opinion? I’m not sure I
agree; could I hear that again?
- Ask questions: values another’s opinion; takes the adversarial tone
out of the picture; communicates a desire for understanding others
- Prayer in the workplace
- pray for yourself: to do excellent work that brings glory to God;
treat people fairly; others will see Jesus in us; our lives will make
our faith attractive; have a good reputation with unbelievers
- pray for others: seek to know God and believe in Jesus as their
Savior; turn from sin; believe the Bible; become a positive influence
for Jesus
- pray with others
